Moartz Theatre’s 35th production is “Chalkface” written by multi award-winning Australian playwright Ange Betzien.
“Chalkface”….is a hilarious contemporary Australian dark comedy that peeks behind the curtain of our public education system.
Set entirely in the staffroom at the fictional West Vale Primary, this fast-paced play follows the travails of a group of schoolteachers over the course of a year.
With humour and heart, the play takes aim at the quirks of our education system, poking fun at privatisation, red tape and workplace politics, while giving audiences a nostalgic trip back to the classroom and characters of our own childhoods.
Synopsis
What happens in the staff room, stays in the staff room.
Pat is a jaded, stalwart primary school teacher who isn’t afraid to voice her opinions: all kids are terrors, the school’s a zoo and her colleagues are nitwits. Enter Anna, who is bright-eyed, idealistic and just out of university. Anna’s going to change the world, one gold star at a time.
As you might suspect, these two don’t quite see eye to eye.
